Elephant and Castle Integrated Ticket Hall Handover 16.06.25
Get Living’s The Elephant team and Southwark Council, held a unique event on Monday 16th June 2025, marking a major milestone in the regeneration of Elephant and Castle and a transformative moment for South London’s transport future. Featuring an eco Mural and animation by DPS Lecturer Nicki Deux Blanchard.
From 2:30pm, guests descended 30 metres beneath Zone 1 for a once-in-a-lifetime event, the official handover of Elephant and Castle’s new ticket hall to Transport for London (TfL). This ceremony marked the completion of the hall’s structure and paves the way for the construction of passenger tunnels that will link the new space directly to the existing Northern Line platforms.
The event was opened by Transport Minister Simon Lightwood, alongside representatives from TfL, the Greater London Authority, Southwark Council, Get Living, London College of Communication and a broad coalition of business leaders and community groups from across South London and the Bakerloo line corridor.
This was a rare opportunity to step behind the scenes of a project that will fundamentally change how people move through the area, improving connectivity, reducing journey times, and future-proofing the network for generations to come.
The ticket hall is a vital part of the Elephant and Castle Town Centre redevelopment. It will enhance connections between the Northern and Bakerloo lines and support the long-term ambition of a Bakerloo line extension, a vision championed by Business for Bakerloo, celebrating the area’s heritage as the historic terminus of the line.
With £4 billion of investment and 26 major projects underway, Elephant and Castle is fast emerging as one of London’s most dynamic commercial and cultural destinations. This event celebrates a key step on that journey, and we would be thrilled to have you join us.
